From fiscal year 2026 onward, the call for applications for the JSPS Bonn Japanese-German Colloquium will be jointly conducted by the JSPS Bonn Office and the JSPS Club.
The JSPS Bonn Japanese-German Colloquium aims to promote research collaboration between Japan and German-speaking countries through smaller, interdisciplinary events. The main points are summarized below.
Objective:
To promote Japanese-German research collaboration, strengthen academic relations, and facilitate the involvement of early-career researchers.
Structure:
- Organized by a German host (JSPS Club member) and a co-host from Japan
- Two-day interdisciplinary program with participants from both regions
Eligibility:
- Applicants must be JSPS alumni and affiliated with a research institution in a German-speaking country
- Applicants must not have recently received JSPS funding for a similar event
Selection Criteria:
The focus is on long-term collaboration, scientific quality, institutional support, societal impact, diversity, and participation of early-career researchers. Priority is given to first-time applicants.
Financial Support:
- JSPS will cover travel and accommodation costs for up to five speakers from Japan and two dinners (up to €2,000)
- Host and co-host institutions are expected to contribute to any additional costs
Timing of the Event:
- The event can last up to two full days (starting with a reception on the previous day)
- It must take place between May 2026 and February 2027

Selection Process:
The selection procedure will be carried out by a committee composed partly of JSPS Club board members and partly of staff from the Bonn Office. Successful applicants will be notified in January 2026.
